Valerie Spurrell - Life's Final Steps

Valerie has a passion for palliative care – in her past nursing career, her hospice volunteer work, and now as an End-of-Life Doula. She recognizes and values the privilege that come with supporting, educating and guiding individuals and their families in the final steps of their unique journey. Through work and personal experience, she has also come to highly value the importance of advanced care planning by all adults (regardless of illness). Life is unpredictable and we never know when we may suddenly be unable to make our wishes known. It is a blessing to family/friends when one has ensured their wants/preferences are documented and known.

Valerie brings to her work a heart-centered, coaching approach that provides dignity and grace around death and dying. Her goal is to fill the gap between hospice and caregivers in an empowering manner providing emotional, spiritual, and psychological support. She is available to assist with advance care planning, legacy planning, providing vigils, assisting in communication with family/friends/health care providers, health system navigation and guidance, support before/during and post death, and grief support. She finds contentment in her walk with God, family, and friends. She feels that she has found purpose in this phase of her life through her doula work. She knows that this collaborative work can make a profound difference in people’s lives and deaths. Offering in-person support in the South Okanagan, and virtual support regardless of location.
