Rethinking the End of Life Experience

Join us at the Anvil Centre in New Westminster, BC on April 24 and 25 for Rethinking the End of Life Experience, an innovative and collaborative palliative education conference for for health care professionals. Come and engage with other palliative care professionals to support the quality of end of life experiences through interdisciplinary learning.

Presented by the End of Life Doula Association of Canada and Douglas College, our conference is committed to improving the end of life experience for Canadians through quality medical care, supportive psychosocial care, and helpful resources.

Pre-Conference Events

For for Health Care Professionals: LEAP Mini session, hosted by Pallium Canada

LEAP Mini is a one-day course that provides health care professionals with the essential skills and competencies of the palliative care approach. This course takes an inter-professional approach and promotes teamwork and collaboration among different health care professionals who work in a variety of settings and organizations.

This session contributes towards continuing medical education (CME) credits.

Limited seating. Registration for this component ends on March 27th.

The course fee includes lunch, refreshment breaks, and an electronic copy of the best-selling resource, the Pallium Palliative Pocketbook.  This session does not include access to the Saturday Full Day Conference, which can be registered separately.

Dying in Good Hands: The Art of Palliative Massage, hosted by Christine Sutherland

Christine teaches effective and safe massage techniques for the chronically ill, disabled, terminally ill, and those with spinal cord injuries. It includes proven techniques for use at home or in institutions, in bed or wheelchair. Its benefits include the enhancement of circulatory, respiratory, and digestive systems. Attendees will receive a copy of Christine's latest book.

This session is open to anyone who would like to register.

This session does not include access to the Saturday Full Day Conference, which can be registered separately.

Evening Welcome Event 6pm

Following the LEAP Mini and Dying in Good Hands sessions, please join us for a welcome event Friday evening to get to meet your fellow conference attendees.

We will also be screening Canadian documentary For Dear Life. This documentary follows the story of terminal cancer patient James Pollard, a seasoned theatre producer, who rallies his family and friends to turn death on its head and stretch his final years into an unconventional project.

Full Day Conference

Join us Saturday for a full day of speaker sessions designed to examine the ways we can rethink how we approach palliative care in Canada. We will start the morning off with a musical performance by the Threshold Choir, followed by speaker presentations.

60 minute keynote sessions include:
